Walter Saeger, Jr
Year Inducted: 1987
Wally came to Dayton via the US Air Force. He quickly made himself a part of the local running community and dominated races both locally and at the national level.
He was an Olympic Trials qualifier for the marathon in 1980 and placed 11th at the trials. In 1982 he placed in the top 20 at the Boston Marathon with a time of 2:13:30. In 1983 he won the TAC 20K Championship. He also won the Bermuda Marathon in 1983.
Wally held many course records in Dayton area races and finished in the top 10 serval times at the very competitive Dayton River Corridor Classic half-marathon. He represented the USA Air Force in many foreign military competitions.
