Maureen Cogan-Speros

Maureen ran cross country and track for coach Neal Charske & Steve Googash at Kettering Fairmont East high school in Ohio. In 1979 she won the Ohio High School cross country championship. I 1980 she recorded the best time in the state at the Fairmont East Invitational and was also the overall individual winner at the following major meets ... Centerville, West Chester Lakota, Beavercreek, Dayton, District and Regional. Maureen lost only once in two years of cross country competition.
She was the 1980 and 1981 Ohio high school track & field championship runner-up at 1600 meters in 5:02.5 and 4:59.3 respectively. Maureen was a member of two medley relay teams which established state records (4000 meter Medley / 12:36.0 and 3400 meter Medley / 9:26.4)
A graduate of The Ohio State University, Maureen had an outstanding college career. She set numerous OSU school records including:

In 1983 Maureen was the Individual Champion of the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country championships. She was the 1984 Big Ten Conference Track Champion at 5,000 meters. Maureen recored wins in NCAA Intercollegiate meets at Drake, Penn, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Illinois, and Illinois State, and finished the season 1st team All Big Ten in Cross Country and was the 3rd place individual at the conference meet in 1984.
In 1984 Maureen turned in perhaps the finest individual season in Ohio State University Womenʼs Cross Country history. She won 4 of her first 6 races and claimed runner-up honors in the other 2 events. She established the OSU 5K Cross Country Womenʼs Cross Country record of 16:30.4
After college she competed at many national class road races as a member of the Bob Schul Racing Team from 1986-1989. In 1986 she was a competitor in the USA Olympic Trials Womenʼs Exhibition 5,000 meter event. She set the course record at the prestigious Minster Oktoberfest 10K (33:11) in 1988.
Maureen now lives in California with her family.
