Jim Snow was a guiding force in the development of youth running in the Dayton area for 43 years. Jim has mentored both Track and Cross Country at all age levels. He has served as the youth chair for the Ohio Association of USATF.
In 1988 Jim combined his Dayton Express Track Club with a number of other clubs in the area to form the South Dayton Flyers. He led the South Dayton Flyers for 19 years, hosting annual Track and Cross Country invitationals. Jim never received pay for his work, holding practices eight hours per week over the course of nine months per year. Coach Snow was always interested in the person as well as in their athletic ability.
In 1996, Jim was the guiding force behind resurrecting the AAU Track & Field and Cross Country programs in Ohio. Up until then, no one in Ohio was competing in these AAU programs. Now both programs are thriving in Ohio. Jim has directed both USATF Ohio Association and AAU Ohio Association Cross Country Championships. In 2001, the AAU brought their Cross Country National Championship meet to Dayton.
Jim believes that his biggest coaching accomplishment is the fact that the majority of the kids that have joined his club at a young age, kept running throughout their high school and college years. Jim has produced a number of athletes that have been USATF and AAU National Age-Group Champions.
