Bret Hyde
Year Inducted: 1999
Bret was a successful runner in high school in Idaho. He then went to the US Air Force Academy where he won a total of 11 letters in cross country and indoor/outdoor track. He established academy records in cross country, 3000 meter, 5000 meter, and 3000 meter steeplechase.
After graduation in 1981 he went on to even greater achievements including becoming a 10 time Armed Forces Steeplechase Champion. He also was named the Air Force Male Athlete of the Year in 1987. He was ranked in the top 10 in the USA 3000 meter steeplechase from 1984-1988. Bret also qualified for the Olympic Trials in the steeplechase 3 times. In 1988 he ran the Dayton River Corridor Classic in 1:06:36 finishing 4th overall.
